Pandora’s Box:Two, Too Many, Part 2

"and they took them wives of all which they chose ..." Genesis 6:2

The last part of Genesis 6: 1-2, is quite interesting: and they took them wives of all which they chose . Therefore, if we should summarize the situation, after a period of time, there was a gradual shift from men doing things God's way and instead doing things their way. It got to the point that "the sons of God" began to choose wives of their own fancy: focusing on the external only and not the internal beauty or eternal birthright. Their carnal nature allowed them to choose unconverted or unequally yoked wives that would lead them away from God. Soon one wife was not enough and they began to have "two, too many". This made God extremely sad, hurt, and upset: Genesis 6:6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Indeed this was one of the vices from "Pandora's Box" that Satan tried to use to destroy faith and hope in God and His law... that invited the swift executive judgment of sinful men using a worldwide flood.

Sin makes haste in corrupting the files of our DNA. It is a virus that sinks itself into the flesh of our genes seeking to find a permanent home unless Christ gets a hold of them when we surrender all to Him. We struggle with ourselves sometimes just like Cain in our Christian experience. We start out well, but sometimes along the way, many of us find ourselves compromising in small and then great things. May we learn from the past, and make our crooked paths straight. Deuteronomy 32:5 says this to all who hold on to known sins, “They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation.”

The pen of inspiration puts it this way: A long preparatory process, unknown to the world, goes on in the hearts of God's people before they commit open sin. There is first a gradual decline of spirituality; God is not cherished in the thoughts; prayer is neglected; selfish thoughts and feelings have a controlling power; carnal desires slowly but surely gain ascendency; and a spirit of proud self-sufficiency takes possession of the soul. (Signs of the Times, October 21, 1880. para. 4)

God has a "box" too you know? A golden box that holds the covenant of righteousness by faith. Within His box under the "mercy seat", bathed in matchless glory is the great game-changer and bastion of hope and defense. Therein lies the law of liberty which points to Jesus our Savior from sin. He brings joy, power, and peace from whatever ails the human mind, body, and soul. Though a covenant of love, mercy, hope, healing, and peace ... it is also a promise of the fair judgment of all.

May we make the choice to relinquish this sin of "two, too many". May our attitude be as we continue studying God's ideal will... "Here is my heart Lord, take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above." God's hand of mercy is outstretched still. Psalms 144:7: Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of strange children;

Join me next time as I unpack the second part of this post: Polygamy: Where Did It Come From? We will attempt to answer: Who started the vice? Is it God -Approved or Man-Approved? Bring your Bibles along as we continue this Scriptural journey. See you next time.
