Four Things to Do When You Are In Hot Pursuit of Your Dreams!

I have a little story to tell you, but promise me not to laugh. I moved to Georgia in pursuit of a better life. I also wanted to continue training to be a medical missionary. I had a problem… to get anywhere, I had to drive, and I didn’t have a vehicle. I had to wait for my aunt or some kind friend to take me everywhere. Bummer!

One day, I got tired of waiting. A BIG idea came into my head. Why don’t you ask one of the dealerships for a vehicle? I thought, “Why not?” I planned to spend time in New York with family and friends, and I knew just the right dealership: Cox Enterprise! I arrived in New York and gave myself the pep talk: “Have Faith!”

Essential Number One: Have Faith! When you are in hot pursuit of your dreams, you must have "guts"! Faith gives you the "guts" to pit yourself against giant obstacles, knowing that God is by your side. It makes you super brave! Luke 1:37

I dialed the dealership's number and told my story to the secretary, asking her to have a manager call me back. I even told them how it could benefit them as a tax write-off. She promised to call me back. I never told a soul what I was planning to do. Not my sisters, who would have laughed at me mercilessly. I waited, expecting God to work. Well….

Essential Number Two: Expect God to work! God wants us to expect big things from Him if we trust Him. Ephesians 3:20

Days passed, and I went back home to Georgia. I never heard back from the dealership. LOL! But I felt proud to have pushed past my pride to do something radical because my desire was greater. I didn’t get a car from the dealership, but something else happened.

About a month or two later, while at home, my father and uncle pulled up in a navy blue van, a Dodge Caravan. I went out to greet them because their visit was unexpected.

They smiled, looked at me, and said, “This is yours”. I laughed in great amazement and hugged them. Really? Wow! God heard my prayer, and He did reward my bold faith. He gave me the desires of my heart, not when I wanted it, but when it would glorify Him.

Essential Number Three: Wait on God to work! He tests the depths of the sincerity of the desires of our hearts. Do we have a need or a want? Psalms 37: 4

Why did I tell you this story? Dreaming big requires guts; it requires Faith, but most of all, it must also result in the Lord being glorified. Without pleasing God first, dreaming big is worthless. Secondly, one may have a big dream and have no idea what to do next, but I want you to know that YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES!

Essential Number Four: YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES! When God's glory is your priority, you have what it takes! You have the power and courage to go and fulfill your dreams. If God is for you, nothing is impossible. You have what it takes! Without pleasing God first, dreaming big is worthless and pointless. Place God first; please Him first, and your success will be sure. Hebrews 11:6

PRAYER

Dear Father,

The entire world belongs to you. There is nothing that your children need that you will not provide. The cattle upon a thousand hills are yours, and You have over a thousand ways to help your children. Please help us to know that we have what it takes to "dream big" and fulfill our dreams. We have you, and faith in you allows big dreams to come through. Thy will be done. In Jesus' name we ask all things, Amen.
